The presentation was impeccable, as was the taste, and the portions were very generous and we left full to the brim. The trendy spot also felt relaxed and the food, while it was on the expensive side, was well worth splashing out on. It looked as pretty as a picture, as did everything that was placed on our table, and every bite was exquisite as the next. A whole flame grilled aubergine sat on my plate drenched in a sweet miso glaze and served with super creamy guacamole and dainty heritage radishes and micro coriander. At £8 it was a surprisingly large portion and the flavours were incredibly pungent and addictive. It was ultra citrusy and tangy and the fish was delicately sliced.īut my favourite dish had to be the miso glazed aubergine.

The Uramaki Sushi tasted insane and was well worth the £12.50 price tag as there were eight chunky portions.Īnother dish I devoured was tuna carpaccio (£12) served with a Moma dressing of lemon juice and oil, plus avocado cream. I tucked into a huge platter of tuna, avocado and cucumber rolls encased in sticky rice and seaweed. I am the biggest sushi fan so decided to indulge in three starters as they all sounded divine. As for the mains, there were lots more wonderful fish dishes including sea bream, pan fried cod, lobster and mackerel, as well as slow cooked pork belly, beef rib, rack of lamb, fillet steak and corn fed chicken.įor vegetarians there was linguine, mushroom risotto and stuffed artichokes, with mains starting from £15. Priced between £9 and £13, the prices were higher than in a typical pub, but in line with a fine dining or Japanese restaurant. Grilled tiger prawns, burrata, scallops and fried calamari were some of the starters on offer alongside a fabulous range of sushi and sashimi such as beef tataki, maki tempura, tuna carpaccio and salmon tartare. Taking influence from Mediterranean and Japanese ingredients and inspiration from seasonal local produce, the menu was innovative with bold, fresh flavours and there were so many dishes that took my fancy. The staff were very welcoming especially Amanda the manager, and I learnt that the head chef had a Michelin background so I knew our tastebuds were in for a treat. I already liked this restaurant and I hadn't even sampled the food by this point. Elegant, bright and trendy, the interior boasted an open kitchen, leather benches, black fixtures and fittings, a huge wall of wine bottles and lots and lots of plants.ĭevil's ivy dangled generously from the ceiling and snaked down a staircase to the lower level where the locked front door was. This meant we had the pick of the lot when it came to choosing where to sit.

READ MORE: Fine dining restaurant The Pass opens near Surrey where you can spy on chefs I guess it was still pretty early for dinner, plus Moma had only opened half an hour prior for evening service. It was around 6pm on a Thursday and the restaurant was empty, except for staff that is. However, if you explored around the side of the red brick building, you will find another entrance to it.

The prominent double brown doors to the eatery were shut firmly tight and the restaurant looked closed, so I wandered straight past it when my mum and I were looking for somewhere to eat. Located along the High Street in the pretty south Surrey town of Haslemere, anyone walking by it is likely to miss it - I certainly did. Moma is an independent Mediterranean and Japanese fusion restaurant I never knew existed until last week.
